Wedding season is in full swing, but your friends might be mysteriously busy this summer. According to a new TD survey, nearly half of Canadians (48%) admit that the brutal cost of living is directly dictating their RSVP decisions.
In fact, 18% of people have already straight-up declined an invitation solely because of the price tag, while another 30% are being ruthlessly selective about whose love they are willing to finance. Between flights, hotels, new outfits, and the unspoken pressure of the cash bar, attending a wedding has basically become a second mortgage.
Gen Z is leading the rebellion, with a massive 64% drawing the line at going broke for someone else’s open-bar fantasy. So, if your guest count is looking a little thin, don’t take it personally. It’s not your registry choices; it’s just the economy.
