It’s looking like it will be a few nice clear days in a row for this year’s SaskPower Windscape Kite Festival in Swift Current.
The festival runs Saturday and Sunday and will feature over 40 national and international star kite performers.
Those include Quad Squad North West from the northwestern U.S. with their six person team of sport kite stunts, as well as Ron and Emily Bohart.
It’s the 16th edition of the festival, with the colourful kites taking to the skies at 10 both Saturday and Sunday.
Simultaneously, the Long Day’s Night Music Festival June 16-19 will be taking place as well. Starting Thursday night will be four nights of diverse Canadian music with artists from all over, including Saskatoon reggae band Oral Fuentes, B.C. indie rockers Yukon Blonde, and soul singer Tanika Charles. Tickets for the weekend are $115 at longdaysnight.ca and there is an SGI free ride home.
Activities are available for the whole family as well during the kite festival.
Childrens’ activities include a candy catapult, scavenger hunt and a straw bale maze.
People are able to make their own kites at workshops.
Organizers say there are 300 plus volunteers, staff members and sponsors.
