A one million dollar program to train indigenous youth for work in the plant-based food processing sector has been set up in Saskatchewan.
The project is from Protein Industries Canada, the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies and Whitecap Dakota First Nation.
Protein Industries CEO Bill Greuel says the goal is to ensure a growing workforce for the expanding plant processing and food manufacturing sector.
Greuel says Canada will need in the coming decade over 17 thousand more workers in the food processing sector.
Greuel says the course includes 8 weeks study and 60 hours on the job site.
