City of Regina residents are now able to receive an email to remind them to move their car if they’re parked in a snow route before it comes into effect.
Snow routes are declared at 3:00 PM the day before they come into effect. The snow routes help city crews clear the roads for better traffic flow and enhanced safety.
Spokesperson Tyler Bien says forgetting to move your vehicle after a snow route is declared can be quite costly.
“If you are parked on the street during the snow route declaration, you will be ticketed,” Bien said. “The ticket is currently $120.”
Bien says since the program began, it’s been quite successful.
“It improves the winter driving conditions of those roads and improves the traffic flow and safety,” Bien said. “The snow ridges can be placed in a uniform pattern along those curbs which in turn allows for better parking for parked vehicles that don’t encroach on the driving lanes.”
There are 16 kilometres of snow route streets in Regina:
- Winnipeg Street from Ross Avenue to Broadway Avenue
- Victoria Avenue from Pasqua Street to Albert Street
- Victoria Avenue from Broad Street to Winnipeg Street
- Toronto Street from Victoria Avenue to College Avenue
- College Avenue from Winnipeg Street to Arcola Avenue
- Broadway Avenue from Broad Street to Park Street
- 15th Avenue from Elphinstone Street to Winnipeg Street
- 14th Avenue from Toronto Street to Winnipeg Street
- 14th Avenue from Albert Street to Halifax Street
- 13th Avenue from Broad Street to Toronto Street
Snow route locations can easily be identified by the blue signs with a white snowflake on them.
