Premier Scott Moe is once again rejecting a claim from the NDP to hold a vaccination lottery.
NDP leader Ryan Meili has twice asked for such a lottery to be held with people being vaccinated being eligible for prizes whether it be cash, Rider tickets or something else, but Moe said on Tuesday that if people want to win a lottery in Saskatchewan, they had best keep buying Lotto 6.49 or Lotto Max tickets because the lottery being called for by Meili will not happen even though such a thing is happening in other provinces or American states.
You are already winning by just getting vaccinated and having the opportunity to get vaccinated,” Moe said Tuesday afternoon “In this province, 92 per cent of our new COVID cases are people that for some reason or another have not been vaccinated at this point in time, and there’s multiple reasons why that might be and 82 per cent of our hospitalizations are people that are not vaccinated.
Moe went on to say if you win by being vaccinated because you not only protect yourself from COVID, but you also protect your family, friends, loved ones and those around you. He added if you like to gamble, then don’t get your shot but the prize may not be what you think it is.
910,322 doses of COVID vaccines had been administered in Saskatchewan as of Tuesday which Moe said was the six month anniversary of the first vaccines being administered.
In its update on Tuesday, the province said 67 percent of those in Saskatchewan aged 12 and over have received their first shot. If that figures gets to 70 percent by Sunday, the province will lift all remaining public health restrictions on July 11.
