Regina Police are investigating a potential abduction attempt after an event in Harbour Landing Friday evening.
On Friday, around 8:45 pm, officers were dispatched to the community to speak with a 22-year-old woman who reported have been approached by a suspicious man. The encounter is believed to have occurred between 7:30 and 7:45 pm, in a park off the 4800 block of James Hill Road.
The woman was waking with two children, ages 2 and 8, when she was approached by a man who walked alongside the group and struck up conversation with the woman. She says became concerned when the man’s question became increasingly personal. At one point, the man picked up the two-year-old, causing the woman to pull the child from his arms.
Despite efforts to dissuade him, the man continued to walk with the 8-year-old. Other people started to notice the woman’s distress and intervened. The woman yelled for the child to return to her. Once the child returned, the man continued walking away.
Although no one was hurt during the incident, the victim was very concerned for the safety of her children. While the man may have not had criminal intentions, police say they want to know more.
The suspect man is described as approximately 20-30 years old, between 5’11 and 6’0 feet tall, with a thin build. He is described as having a dark complexion, brown eyes, and a short scruffy beard. The man was wearing a black hoodie pulled up over his head, black sweatpants, and black shoes. The victim says the man spoke with an accent.
