More bad news today for customers of embattled airline carrier Sunwing.
The information on the latest round of cancellations comes via numerous social media posts from travel agents across the province.
Passengers affected by cancellations in December were forced to rebook flights – those rebooked flights are now cancelled.
One caveat on the cancelation is customers with vacations booked for departures on Family Day weekend.
“With the exception of customers scheduled to depart from Regina on Family Day weekend, and customers with Sunday bookings to Puerto Vallarta, Sunwing is offering impacted customers the ability to transfer their vacation package to same-day departures from Winnipeg, Saskatoon or other Canadian airports as originally booked pricing, pending availability. Alternatively, customers can choose to cancel their vacations for a full refund to their original form of payment, if preferred.”
In light of the recent cancellations from Sunwing, and the restructuring of Air Canada’s service to Calgary – Saskatchewan flyers are finding travel from the province becoming increasingly difficult.
James Bogusz – President and CEO of Regina’s Airport Authority has said that numerous discussions are taking place behind closed doors about bringing more low cost carriers to the province.
“We don’t stop with mainline carriers. We have been having active discussions with a number of ultra low cost carriers, and we are actively trying to bring them back to the city of Regina. Now in Canada there is a lot more choice, and we are trying to bring more of those brands to the queen city to create more competition.”
