Last night at 10:10 p.m., a man entered an unlocked, running vehicle that wasn’t his in the 4400 block of Rae Street and drove away.

A few hours later, at 1:35 a.m. today, the vehicle was found abandoned in the area of Broadway Avenue and Broad Street. A canine unit tracked down a man who was arrested and confirmed to be the man from the offenses, police said.

Garth Joseph Stonechild, 36 from Regina, was arrested and charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime and operating a conveyance while prohibited.

He’s appearing in provincial court this afternoon.
