Sask NDP seeks legislative food pricing study

Saskatchewan’s NDP leader Carla Beck is calling for a special legislative committee to study food pricing issues in Saskatchewan.

The NDP wants the study to look into supply chain issues, fair pricing for Saskatchewan livestock producers, and food security issues in the North.

The SaskParty government rejected the NDP call.

Agriculture minister David Marit says the federal carbon tax is a key component of rising costs.

He says he pays carbon tax on everything that enters or leaves his farm.

He says the carbon tax is having a significant impact on food prices across Canada.

The commons agriculture committee is investigating food pricing issues, and the Saskatchewan government believes that is the best approach.
