Nine communities receive funding from federal and provincial governments

Nine communities across Saskatchewan have received funding for infrastructure projects.

In total, over $40 million is being invested, with the Government of Canada contributing $22.3 million and the Government of Saskatchewan $17.7 million. The recipients of the funding are contributing $14 million as well.

The City of Martensville received the most funding for constructing a new community recreation facility.

The Town of Indian Head will receive funding for the first phase of renovations for its theatre and community arts centre, and the Town of Whitewood will receive funding to upgrade its recreation centre.

Several rural areas will also see important infrastructure improvements. This includes bridge replacement to support the transportation system in the rural municipalities of Meota, Miry Creek and Mount Pleasant, along with decommissioning a landfill in Mankota to help protect the environment.

Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities Minister Dominic LeBlanc the investments will help create healthy, connected, and resilient communities.

“Once these projects are completed, residents of Martensville will be able to stay active in a new multipurpose facility, and residents of Muskoday First Nation will have a dedicated space to promote and transmit their cultural traditions. Working with our partners, our Government will continue to support rural and Indigenous communities across Saskatchewan.”

“The Government of Saskatchewan is proud to invest more than $17.7 million toward these shovel-ready infrastructure projects, which will increase recreation and cultural opportunities, protect the environment and enhance the transportation system,” said Don McMorris, Saskatchewan’s Minister of Government Relations. “These local infrastructure investments will continue to strengthen our communities and benefit Saskatchewan citizens for years to come.”
