The city of Regina and the RM of Sherwood have reached an agreement to bring almost 12 hundred acres of land into Regina city limits.
The land is located south of Inland Drive, between Winnipeg street and Fleet Street.
The boundary change is due to recent regional economic development and enables the city to meet the needs of the new Viterra oilseed crushing plant and Federated Co-ops Integrated Ag Complex.
Mayor Sanda Masters says the projects will result in significant economic benefits for both the city and the rural municipality.
The tax loss compensation payable by the city to the RM is 126 thousand dollars, consistent with similar boundary alterations across the province.
The two projects will result in over 37 hundred construction jobs and 400 permanent jobs.
Viterra is building the world’s largest integrated canola crushing facility at 2.5 million tons.
Federated Co-op is building a canola crushing plant with AGT foods and a renewable diesel complex at a cost of 2 billion dollars.
Cargill is also building a multi-million dollar canola crushing plant near Regina.
