Latest ‘manpower’ survey expects strong hiring for rest of year

According to the latest ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey, employers in Canada’s prairie region are expected to see an increase in hiring for the fourth quarter of 2022.

Mindy Stoltz of Manpower’s Winnipeg office said that nearly half of employers in the survey plan to hire people.

“Survey data reveals that 48 per cent of employers plan to hire for the upcoming quarter, while 12 per cent anticipates cutbacks,” she said. “37 per cent of employers plan to maintain their current staffing levels, and the remaining three per cent are unsure of their hiring intentions.”

“With seasonal variations removed from the data, the prairie region’s fourth quarter Net Employment Outlook is +36 per cent, a 19-percentage point increase from the previous quarterly Outlook,” said Stoltz. “This indicates a prosperous hiring pace for the upcoming months.”

Nationally, Canadian employers anticipate a robust hiring climate for the fourth quarter of 2022.

With seasonal variations removed from the data, the Net Employment Outlook for Canada is +30 per cent, an eight-percentage point decrease from the previous quarterly Outlook (3Q 2022) and a six-percentage point decrease from the Outlook reported during the same time last year (4Q 2021).

The survey revealed that 45 per cent intend to increase their staffing levels in the fourth quarter of 2022, while 13 per cent anticipate cutbacks, resulting in a Net Employment Outlook of +32 per cent.

Meanwhile, 39 per cent of the employers surveyed expect their current staffing levels to remain unchanged, while the remaining three per cent are unsure of their hiring intentions.
