The RCMP have announced Myles Sanderson is dead.
The announcement came hours after his dramatic arrest south of Rosthern today (Wednesday).
Sanderson, the suspect in the mass stabbings that happened at the James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon, was located and arrested by police at 3:30 p.m.
The RCMP say they found a knife on Sanderson when he was arrested, and he went into medical distress shortly after. He was taken to hospital in Saskatoon, where he was pronounced dead.
An independent investigation will be done by a different police force, which will look into how Sanderson died. The RCMP have also asked the provincial government to appoint an independent observer, which is in line with the provincial police act.
