An investigation is underway at a penitentiary north of Prince Albert, after a 33-year-old female inmate was declared dead Friday morning at Pine Grove Correctional Centre.
In a news release from the RCMP, when the inmate was found unconscious in her cell, Corrections staff called EMS, and initiated life saving procedures. EMS declared the woman dead.
The Prince Albert Police Service and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service are investigating.
The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety will also be conducting an internal investigation. Police say this death is not related to COVID.
