Many people in southern Saskatchewan are no strangers to the rain so far this spring – and starting Thursday night they’ll get some more.
Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a rainfall warning for areas of southern Saskatchewan, as models are indicating up to 60 mm of rain could be falling.
Meteorologist Terri Lang said this is yet another Colorado low bringing more precipitation to the province.
“Much of the rain is spreading into southern Saskatchewan,” she said. “It looks like a good portion of Southern Saskatchewan will receive the rain and up through east-central areas as well.”
Lang said areas of east-central and northern Saskatchewan might even see wet snow, along with gusty winds Friday. But she said at the forecast stage, there can be a difference when it comes to the amount of rain with these systems in how far they travel.
“But at this time it’s looking like most of the rain will fall over the eastern portions of southern Saskatchewan, and we’re expecting upwards of 60 millimetres of rain.”
Lang said much of the province could be seeing some rain with the system.
“Regions further to the west, they need the rain, so they’ll probably welcome it more than those eastern areas that have already had their lions share of the precipitation so far this spring,” said Lang.
Lang said because areas closer to the Manitoba border have been deluged at times with precipitation this spring, there is extra sensitivity to more rain this time.
