New Wind Turbines Connected to SaskPower’s Grid

The amount of wind generated power has just doubled in Saskatchewan.

The Golden South Wind Facility is near Assinaboia, and is generating 200 megawatts of emissions free power, using 50 turbines.

The Blue Hill Wind Facility is close to Herbert, and uses 35 turbines, to generate 175 megawatts of power.  Combined, the two projects can provide enough electricity to 187-thousand homes according to a news release from SaskPower.

“SaskPower’s commitment to reducing its emissions is evident in today’s announcement,” said Troy King, Interim President and CEO at SaskPower in a news release. “Expanding our renewable generation portfolio is a critical part to providing safe, reliable, and cost-effective power to Saskatchewan.”

SaskPower is now launching a competition to find a company to build a massive solar energy facility near Estevan.  Estevan was chosen because of the high amount of year round sunshine, as well as its proximity to the grid.
