City shifting into gopher control mode

An overpopulation of gophers can be a nuisance, and the city of Regina will be moving in on 23 targeted areas to try to control the issue.

Athletic fields and public parks can be hazardous with gopher holes. Areas on city property marked with distinctive yellow signs will have Rozol RTU applied to them, which is a substance approved for use by Health Canada for use for gopher control in rough turf areas.

Staff will visit 23 sites daily for several weeks following the application of pest control on publicly owned property to clean up and ensure safety. The public is asked to keep dogs on leashes when outside or avoid the areas completely.

The program will continue for several weeks
