Canadian Blood Services looking for donations this long weekend

As many Saskatchewan residents are getting ready to enjoy the Easter long weekend, Canadian Blood Services is asking for blood and plasma donations.

Starting Wednesday and running until Saturday, Canadian Blood Services will be looking to fill appointments.

Aaron Barlow, the territory manager of donor relations with Canadian Blood Services Regina, said that they have a lot of vacancies for appointments this week.

“Canadian patients rely on the generosity of our donors, and our Regina donor centre has over 100 appointments that need to be filled by the end of Easter long weekend.”

Barlow said that the need for blood never stops, especially if there is a long weekend.

“To ensure that we have a healthy inventory of blood and products, we need those appointments filled,” he said. Unfilled appointments can lead to a drawdown in our inventory, and those affect patients in need.”

Canadian Blood Services will be welcoming appointments on Wednesday (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.), Thursday (2 p.m. to 7 p.m.), Friday (8 a.m. to 1 p.m.), and Saturday (8 a.m. to 1 p.m.). They will only be welcoming people via appointments, which people can book by visiting blood.ca, using the GiveBlood app or calling 1-888-236-6283.
