Saskatchewan Polytechnic has received over one million dollars for two digital applied research projects.

The funding is from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council.

The two research projects are designed to help small to medium-sized enterprises seize new opportunities to grow and become more competitive.

The research is focused on data to help Canadian mining, municipal, infrastructure, transportation, security and agricultural sectors.

The first project is designed to help automation equipment operate underground in mining where there is no gps derived co-ordinates.

The research looks at sensor technology.

The second project looks at improving the use of drones, rovers and unmanned boats to inspect critical infrastructure in energy and utilities, manufacturing, agriculture, transportation and security.
