Masters reflects on 2022 SUMA convention

The 2022 SUMA Convection wrapped up earlier this week, with it marking for the first time since 2019 that mayors and councillors were able to attend the convention in person.

For Regina Mayor Sandra Masters, this marked her first time attending the convention in person, and she said it was a fantastic experience.

“Just the opportunity to meet people face to face. The ability to be in a room and listen to the issues that other municipalities have puts into perspective the depth of the issues and the opportunities not just your municipality but the province as well are facing.”

She said getting the chance to meet and connect with others is very important for collaboration.

“Understanding that there are other folks that have experience out there and share some ideas with,” she said. “You can ask questions, share ideas, and share good and bad experiences.”

One City Masters said they connected with was Saskatoon. She added that connecting and having a good relationship with a City the same size and dealing with similar problems is also very important.
