An icon of business in the City of Regina will be getting his name added to the Regina Soundstage.

John Hopkins, the longtime CEO of the Regina Chamber of Commerce, who passed away earlier this year, will have his name and legacy remembered for years to come.

“John Hopkins was a strong advocate for economic growth in our capital city and in our province,” said Laura Ross, the minister responsible for parks, culture and sport.”Renaming this important facility the John Hopkins Regina Sound Stage is a small way to honour his memory and his advocacy for this sector.”

Tony Playter, the interim CEO for the Regina and District Chamber of Commerce, said the renaming is a fitting way to remember the former CEO.

“We were extremely pleased that John will be remembered through the soundstage. He was a big fan of music and the arts, and our business community and the two tie together so well. This is a real tribute to him and his family.”

He said he couldn’t think of a better tribute.

“The business community is going to benefit from the film grants that were mentioned in the budget, and it is very fitting that John Hopkins’s name is on a building that is going to help grow our economy,” he said. “It’s a real tribute and a legacy that will last forever and everything he’s done for Regina and the province and businesses.”
