Carla Beck running for the leadership of the Sask NDP

The first one in the pool, is Regina Lakeview MLA Carla Beck.

Beck, flanked by MLA’s Trent Wotherspoon and Nicole Sauer announced her intention to run for the leadership of the Sask NDP.

Beck invoked the spirit of Tommy Douglas during her announcement.

“We have to give people a reason to hope again. Tommy Douglas just didn’t say – dream no little dreams. He and Saskatchewan New Democrats made those big dreams a reality. Public Hospitals and Medicare, a bill of rights, our crown corporations building industries and creating jobs right here.”

Beck first won office in 2016, and has served as the opposition’s Caucus Chair, as well as the critic for  Education, Early Learning, and Childcare, and the critic for Labour, according to her MLA profile.

Beck grew up on a farm near Lang Saskatchewan, and spent 20 years as a social worker.  She then served two terms on the Regina Public School Board.

The MLA’s at her side, Wotherspoon and Sauer have both said they have no intention of running for the leadership, being vacated by Ryan Meili.

The leadership convention will take place in Regina, in late June.
