Province releases weekly COVID-19 report

A few short days before the Saskatchewan government lifts the mask mandates throughout the province, the latest weekly Covid-19 numbers were released.
There were 37 deaths related to COVID-19 over the past week, with one of those deaths was to a person between the ages of 20 and 39. There were three deaths to people in their 60s, seven deaths to people in their 70s, and 26 to people 80 and over.
All week, there were 1,407 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Saskatchewan over the last seven days and 372 people in hospital, including 27 in ICU. Last week, there were 410 in hospital and 33 in ICU. Daily admissions have dropped from 35.3 to 21.6.
The province’s mandate for masks in indoor places expires Feb. 28.
Regina saw a sharp decrease in the number of COVID-19 cases reported. There were 295 cases reported, a decrease of the 507 from the previous week. Test positivity also dropped from around 20 per cent last week to 14.4 per cent this week.
All over Saskatchewan, the numbers and proportions of cases were lower in all zones compared to last week, with the exception being the far north zones. The province did note that rates should be interpreted with caution because they do not include cases detected by home rapid-antigen test kits.
Also, there were seven new outbreaks reported at long term care and care home settings in the province, a decrease from 22 new outbreaks the previous week.
As of Feb. 19, the province reported 85.5 per cent of the population five and over have received the first dose of their two-dose vaccine, while 80.1 per cent have completed a series.
