Farm tractor sales continue on growth streak

Farm tractor sales in Canada and the U.S. continued sales growth streak into January 2022.

The latest data from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers says combine harvester sales slowed for January but tractors continued an upward spiral.

In Canada, sales of tractors for January were up 6.3 percent overall, led by over 100 horsepower units growing 26 percent.

Articulated four wheel drive tractors grew 16.7 percent last month.

Combine sales in January fell 30 percent to 49 units in Canada.

Senior vice president with the Association of Equipment Manufacturers, Curt Blades, says the sales trend since June 2020 has remained above the five year average.

Tractors are considered a benchmark for the farm equipment industry.

He says the strength of farm markets and farmers seeing the value of the new technologies on offer is driving demand.

At the same time, he says the lingering effects of the supply chain remain a concern.

The association represents more than one thousand companies and more than 200 product lines in the agriculture and construction sectors worldwide.
