Plastic Checkout Bag Ban Bylaw now in effect for Regina

With the calendar now flipping over to February, the plastic checkout bag ban bylaw has begun in Regina.

The fine for an individual caught in violation of the bylaw is $100, the second fine is $200 and third fine is $500.

While for a business, the first fine is $500, the second fine is $1,000  with the third fine being $10,000.

The City of Regina said in a recent public engagement study, that 77% of the respondents feel that the reduction of single use plastic items was an important issue for them.
