The Government of Saskatchewan announced they will not be introducing any new public health orders and have extended the current heath orders until February 28.

Under the current public health orders, masking will continue to be mandatory in all indoor public spaces, and self-isolation will be required for all cases and non or partially vaccinated close contacts who are symptom-free.

Proof of vaccination or a negative test will continue to be in place for a number of establishments, businesses and event venues.

Premier Scott Moe said that restrictions have been necessary at times over the course of the pandemic but feels that they wouldn’t be beneficial during the Omicron wave.

“They are an infringement on the rights and freedoms that we come to enjoy as Canadians,” he said. “That’s why they should only be used if absolutely necessary and only if they can clearly be shown that they are effective and working, and we are not seeing that as being the case.”

Provincial NDP Leader Ryan Meili said that the province should have some form of added public health orders.

“Things would be much worse in other provinces without those restrictions in place, things are going to be far worse in Saskatchewan because he’s failed to take the necessary public health measures to keep us safe.”

The Government said it would reassess its public health orders at the end of February.
