Slow start costs Pats against Wheat Kings

The Regina Pats count not overcome a bad start against the Brandon Wheat Kings as they lost 4-3.

Regina would allow three goals in the first nine minutes of the game, chasing goalie Matthew Kieper. The Pats would regain some momentum as Logan Nijhoff (9) scored in the dying minutes of the first period to cut the lead to two.

The Wheat Kings would regain their two-goal lead, but the Pats would cut that lead to just one as Braxton Whitehead (3) and Cole Dubinsky (8) both scored in the second.

Brandon goalie Carson Bjarnason would shut the down in the third, as he made 15 saves to hold off the Pats for the win.

Ryker Evans has two assists for Regina, and Drew Sim stopped 23 of the 24 shots he faced in relief.

The Pats will be off until Friday as they host the first game of a home-and-home versus the Moose Jaw Warriors.
