A temporary indoor homeless shelter in Regina that replaced the outdoor Camp Hope, is completely full with a lengthy wait list.
According to a City of Regina report, about 20 people are currently on the shelter’s wait list.
As a result, people are being turned away and sent to other non-profit shelters, with hotel rooms even being used as a last resort.
The City’s report that included this information will be read and discussed at City Council’s regular meeting on Wednesday afternoon.
The indoor shelter, at an undisclosed location on Hamilton Street, has 40 beds and also provides food, clothing and showers.
People are required to take a rapid COVID-19 test before they are allowed inside.
Operating costs are currently being covered by the City of Regina, and the Ministry of Social Services, who has partnered with Regina Treaty Status Indian Services.
The City says it is currently researching a long term solution, adding it has spent about $134,000 on the temporary shelter so far.
The indoor space opened November 15th after Camp Hope, which operated in Pepsi Park, was dismantled.

The City of Regina also said it plans to continue supporting the indoor shelter in the new year, but did not give a specific timeline on when funding may end.
