A possible deportation for Jaskirat Sidhu likely won’t come until 2022

The lawyer for the man who was driving the truck that ran into the Humboldt Broncos team bus in April of 2018 killing 16 and injuring 13 others says a decision as to whether or not his client will be deported to India likely won’t happen until the new year.

Sidhu was sentenced to eight years after pleading guilty to dangerous driving causing death and bodily harm after he missed a stop sign at an intersection and drove into the bus carrying the team that was en route to Nipawin for a playoff game.

Calgary immigration lawyer Michael Greene says he has submitted over 400 pages of paperwork to the Canada Border Services Agency that include letters from Sidhu’s family and three families of players whose lives were taken in the crash that sent shockwaves around the world.

Greene said his client has not sought parole and was only moved from medium security to minimum security at the end of August.

The Canada Border Services Agency is to write a report recommending whether or not Sidhu should be deported. The deadline for the paperwork to be submitted was November 28, but that has been delayed one month.
