A record-high 601 new cases of COVID-19

Thursday has more eye-popping numbers when it comes to COVID-19 as there are a record-high 601 new cases to go along with 10 new deaths which puts the provincial death total at 695.

Of the 601 new cases, 520 (86.5 percent)  are in people who have not been vaccinated including 127 kids between the ages of 0-11 who can’t be vaccinated because of their age.

Saskatoon had the highest number of new cases with 165. Regina followed behind at 98.  There are now 4,669 active cases which is an increase of 84 from Wednesday’s numbers.

Another record has been set for people in the ICU as the government says 72 of the 307 people in hospital are getting intensive care.  Of the 307 patients eligible for vaccination, 228 (74.3%) were not fully vaccinated.  On September 1, there were 134 people in hospital with 30 of those in the ICU.

Almost 4,800 vaccines were performed Wednesday. 2,643 were first doses.  Over 730,000 people in Saskatchewan are now fully vaccinated as a proof-of-vaccination policy takes effect Friday.

The seven-day daily average of new cases is at 488.  On September 1, that number was 271.
