Voter turnout about average for federal election

Last week’s federal election was about average when it comes to voter turnout.

Sixty-two percent of those eligible to vote did so.

Elections Canada says that adds up to almost 17-million Canadians, out of 24.7-million who are eligible to cast a ballot.

The number does not include those who registered to vote on election day itself.

Turnout was down from 67 percent in 2019 and 68.3 percent in 2015, but it was still better than four of the previous seven federal elections held in Canada since the beginning of the century.
