Regina Police say a 16-year-old boy is facing a slew of charges after stealing a vehicle, driving erratically, and almost hitting an officer.
Around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, a constable canine unit was driving northbound on Broad Street near 15th Avenue, when he saw a vehicle coming from the opposite direction at what was described as an extremely high rate of speed.
The vehicle, a red Hyundai Elantra, turned out to be stolen,
The vehicle slowed, then turned west into a dead-end lane on the 2400 block of Broad Street.
As police tried to communicate with the suspect, instructing him to stop and exit the vehicle, the driver began a series of erratic driving maneuvers, almost hitting an officer on foot, and eventually striking one police vehicle.
Officers were eventually able to immobilize the vehicle and get the suspect out of the car.
The youth, who cannot be named because of his age, is facing a total of eight charges, including two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, and dangerous driving.
He made his first court appearance on Wednesday.
