Province hits 500+ new cases of COVID-19 for first time

One day after setting a new record for daily new COVID-19 cases, the province has set another record as the number climbs to the 500 level for the first time since the pandemic was declared in March of 2020.

Numbers from the government on Tuesday show 506 new cases with 426 coming from people who have not been vaccinated.   There are also two new deaths to report bringing the number to 627. The active case count now stands at 3,929

The new cases are located in the Far North West (12), Far North Central (4), Far North East (64), North West (64), North Central (74), North East (25), Saskatoon (97), Central West (8), Central East (21), Regina (45), South West (12), South Central (17) and South East (22) zones and 41 new cases have pending residence information.  101 of the new cases are in kids age 0-11 who can’t be vaccinated at this time.

Hospitalization numbers are also continuing to climb with 225 now requiring care because of the virus.  That is an increase of 16 from Monday’s report.  Of the 225, 43 are in the ICU. Of the 225 patients, 170 (75.6%) were not fully vaccinated.

Only 665 vaccines were handed out Monday.  Of those 665, 390 went to people who are now fully vaccinated.
