Sixties Scoop exhibition coming to Regina Public Library’s downtown branch

A travelling exhibit on the Sixties Scoop will be on display at the central Regina Public Library this week.

The exhibition is being put on by Sixties Scoop Indigenous Society of Alberta (SSISA), and will also be on displayed at several locations across the province.

Director of Community Engagement for RPL Nancy MacKenzie says it explores the experiences of Sixties Scoop survivors and the impact it had on Indigenous communities.

“It’s 12 different panels that looks at in-depth 12 separate survivor stories with iPad’s attached to each one of these panels, and that has videos of people talking about what they have gone through and what it has meant to them.”

MacKenzie says the Bi-Giwen: Coming Home – Truth Telling from the Sixties Scoop exhibition is an important event to bring to Regina.

“The public library is a perfect fit for the community to gather for events, discover, learn, connect in the context of reconciliation,” Mackenzie said. “We were honoured and excited that they (SSISA) have approached us to host this exhibition in Regina.”

MacKenzie says as the public library and residents of Treaty Four Territory, they’re proud to tell Indigenous stories on our shared history.

“It’s a really valuable opportunity for our community to gain a better understanding about a really difficult chapter in our collective history and the lasting impact that the Sixties Scoop continues to have on Indigenous communities.”

The exhibition will be held from 11:00 until 7:00 on Wednesday.
