SaskEnergy wants to charge you more for heating your home and they want to do it before the calendar year is over.

The company has applied to the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel looking for an overall increase of 8.4 percent on the average residential customers bill.  That translates to an extra $5.65 a month.

The change would also see small to large commercial customers seeing an increase of between $28 to $360 a month.

Natural gas prices in the open market have essentially doubled since SaskEnergy decreased the commodity rate in 2019.” SaskEnergy president and CEO Ken From said in a press release. Increased natural gas demand for power generation coupled with higher liquefied natural gas exports are contributing to increased commodity prices. While this proposed rate adjustment reflects higher natural gas prices, SaskEnergy will remain competitive with other Canadian jurisdictions and will continue to provide affordable, stable natural gas rates for our customers.”

If successful,  the new rate would take effect November 1
