Advance polls now open for federal election

Canadians will get the chance to cast their ballot ahead of election day as advance polls open up across the country this weekend.

The polls opened up on Friday and will run through Monday, from 9:00am-9:00pm each day.

Marie-France Kenny from Elections Canada says that even though masks are not mandatory in Saskatchewan, Elections Canada will be abiding by landlord policies on masks. If a polling station is located at a school, masks will be required. If you don’t have a mask, one will be provided for you. All of the of the election workers will be required to wear a mask.

Proof of vaccination will not be required when you go to vote, Kenny noted that poll workers will not ask electors for proof of vaccination or a vaccination passport.

Casting your ballot by mail is still available for electors. The deadline to cast your ballot by mail is Tuesday, September 14. Kenny recommends that if you’re voting by mail, that you do it as soon as you can.

There is still a need for poll station workers on election day, Kenny notes that openings are still available including in Regina. If anyone is interested in working on election day they are asked to contact the Elections Canada office.
