Protest outside of Merriman’s office for more COVID-19 measures while case counts spike

A rally was held in front of Health Minister Paul Merriman’s office Wednesday in Saskatoon, with those in attendance calling for stricter COVID-19 measures, vaccine initiatives, and more support for healthcare professionals.

The rally was in an effort to call on the province to implement what the group calls “common sense, evidence-based policy.”

The organizers of the rally say similar events will be held every Wednesday until new measures are announced.

It may not be that much longer. In a statement from the provincial government, Premier Scott Moe and Health Minister Paul Merriman are engaging further with the Saskatchewan Health Authority regarding the recent COVID-19 situation, including the increase in hospitalization numbers.

An announcement will be made in the coming days.

Another protest in favour of more COVID-restrictive measures is scheduled to take place in Regina Thursday afternoon.

There were 405 new cases reported in Saskatchewan on Wednesday.
