Moostoos seeking bail in double homicide

The man accused in the double homicide that took place on the James Smith Cree Nation made his first court appearance Wednesday in Nipawin.

Shawn Moostoos faces two counts of first degree murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life.

The 33-year-old Moostoos is seeking bail in the case.

Moostoos was arrested without incident at a home in Melfort on Monday. A 37-year-old man, and a 28-year-old woman were both killed on Sunday, and a 44-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The suspect reportedly knew each of the victims, according to RCMP.

Moostoos will appear in court in Melfort via video call in September. He remains in custody in Prince Albert.
