Saskatchewan RCMP are searching for a suspect involved in a shooting on the James Smith Cree Nation, just north of Melfort, that killed two people and injured another.

A 37-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman died of their injuries, and a 44-year-old man was taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries.

An emergency alert was issued, warning people to avoid the area, shelter in place, avoid windows, and not answer the door for anyone but police.

Police are looking for 33-year-old Shawn Moostoos who is described as having brown eyes and brown hair. He is just over six feet tall, weighing 189 pounds, and has a scar on his left hand.

Police add he may be driving a white 2003 Pontiac Montana with a Saskatchewan license plate 938 MBT.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately. Police believe he may be armed, and should not be approached.

The emergency alert was cancelled after police learned the suspect and the victims were known to each other.
