A public inquest in to the death of Samwel Uko will be held later this month.
Uko was witnessed entering Wascana Lake and submerging under the water in May of 2020. Earlier that day, Uko was denied medical assistance for his mental health struggles at the Regina General Hospital twice.
That led the Saskatchewan Health Authority to apologize to Uko’s family, and pay $81,000 in damages to the family.
The inquest will take place at the Ramada Plaza in Regina from Sept. 20-24.
The Saskatchewan Chief Coroner may direct that an inquest be held into any death of a person according to Section 19 of The Coroners Act, 1999. Coroner Robert Kennedy will preside the proceedings.
