Police officer fatally shoots aggressive dog in Regina’s north end

A Regina Police officer has shot and killed a dog in the city’s north end.

Police say they were called to the area of 4th Avenue and McIntyre Street Wednesday night for a report of a woman behaving strangely. The woman was walking her dog — described as a medium-size brown Pitbull — on a leash. It was reported the dog had attacked another dog and was acting aggressively at other people.

Police located the woman and the dog on the 100 block of Albert Street North, and transported both to a residence on the 1200 block of Rae Street, where an Animal Protection worker determined the dog should be seized. The owner took the leash off the dog, which allowed it to lunge at the Animal protection worker and an RPS officer, who shot and killed the dog with one round.

The investigation is continuing.
