Trudeau to visit Rideau Hall today, possibly triggering election

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is set to meet Governor General Mary Simon this morning at Rideau Hall, a meeting many believe will kickstart a federal election.

While the election date hasn’t been confirmed, many believe it will be on September 20th. The 36-day campaign would be the shortest period allowed under federal election laws.

Trudeau is hoping to secure a majority government after operating under a minority for the past two years.

The ensuing five week campaign would see political leaders traveling the country trying to swing votes their way, all while Canada deals with the fourth wave of COVID-19.
