Ottawa announces mandatory vaccination policy for federal workers

Saying it is a move that is necessary to protect against more dangerous variants of COVID-19, the federal government says all federap employees, workers in federally regulated industries and many travellers will have be to vaccinated.

A timeframe as to when this will come into effect for public servants is not known, but President of the Privy Council, Dominic Leblanc, says a p0licy is being developed as quicky as possible.

Transport Minister Omar Alghabra says workers in federally regulated industries will have to be fully vaccinated no later than October 31 with those travelling on commercial airlines, interprovincial trains and cruise ships also being required to be vaccinated by that date.

Travellers on commercial airlines, interprovincial trains and cruise ships will also be required to be vaccinated by that date.

“After months and months of deploying these vaccines literally into millions of Canadian arms, we see how effective they are. We also see what other workplaces and other public service agencies around the world have done,” said LeBlanc. “It is very much a continuation of our government’s efforts to do whatever it takes for as long as it takes to protect the health and safety of Canadians.”
