A 32-year-old man was found unresponsive and later declared deceased by EMS in his cell at the Regina Correctional Centre on Thursday.

In a news release the province says the inmate was found unresponsive in his cell around 2:10 p.m.

RCMP and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service are now conducting an investigation.

An internal investigation is also being conducted by the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety.

The province says the death is not related to COVID-19.

The man’s family has been notified.

His name has not been released.
