Charges laid after explosive device incident at Regina’s east Superstore

Regina Police have arrested and charged a 23-year-old man in connection to Friday’s frightening explosive device incident at the east Superstore location.

Police — as well as the RCMP’s Explosives Disposal Units (EDU) — attended to the scene just before 11:00 AM on Friday morning. Officers were able to confirm both the store itself and a vehicle in the parking lot both contained items dangerous to the public. Due to safety concerns, traffic on Victoria Avenue was closed for a brief time while RPS and the RCMP continued their investigation.

EDU members were able to ensure the vehicle’s safety while a second EDU team entered the store and safely removed an item and transported it to a secure location for examination and destruction. The suspect, 23-year-old Kyle Poag, was located and arrested on site.

Poag now faces a total of seven charges:

-Deliver or place an explosive
-Make an explosive substance without lawful excuse
-Make and explosive substance with intent to endanger life
-Deliver or place an explosive or other lethal device with intent to cause death or bodily injury
-Possession of an explosive substance without lawful excuse
-Make an explosive substance with intent to endanger life
-Knowingly utter a threat to the public to cause death to the public.

Poag appears in court Monday morning.
