Canada Life is holding a drive-thru food drive at the Regina Food Bank Wednesday from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM.
Those wanting to take part can bring cash or non-perishable and produce donations to the food bank, Canada Life will be matching donations up to 5,000 lbs.
Food Bank CEO John Bailey says this event is huge for them.
“What we’re looking at is sort of in that shorter season in between when the province really starts to open up and sort of being under the COVID restrictions,” Bailey said. “Canada Life stepping up and doing a drive-thru, COVID responsible way to sort of jump start some fundraising for us is massive for us.”
Bailey says they’ll accept almost everything during this food drive.
“Obviously our preference is around shelf-stable foods: canned pastas, dried pastas, canned pasta sauces, canned proteins, canned vegetables, that sort of stuff,” Bailey said. “For coming through (the drive-thru), we also have the capacity to take on fresh fruit and vegetables if people have it.”
Bailey says the only thing they will not accept is fresh or frozen meat. Bailey says 2021 is shaping up to be a record year when it comes to food demand in Regina.
This is part of a series of drive-thru collection events by Canada Life. One was in Winnipeg on Tuesday, while another will be in London on Thursday.
