620 CKRM is proud to join over 450 radio stations across Canada Wednesday, to take part in A Day to Listen.

The federal government is providing over $950,000 to expand grain farming at Cowessess First Nation, north of Broadview.

Its part of a $4-million cross-Canada funding announcement for 16 projects to support indigenous food system initiatives.

Chief Cadmus Delorme sees agriculture as a big part of the future for Cowessess.

Now in its third year, Cowessess farms 4,500 acres of crop on the 32,000 acre First Nation.

Delorme says the project is designed to improve economic self-sustainability for Cowessess.

Ranch manager Terry Lerat says Cowessess also has a cattle herd of 150 cows.

Cowessess First Nation is about 165 kilometers east of Regina near Broadview.
