182 unmarked graves found at former residential school near Cranbrook, B.C.

Another Indigenous community in B.C. is reporting human remains found near a former residential school.

The Lower Kootenay Band says 182 unmarked graves were found close to the former St. Eugene’s Mission School near Cranbrook.

This comes after 751 unmarked graves were found by the Cowessess First Nation near the former Marieval Indian Residential School in Saskatchewan, and 215 unmarked graves were found near the site of the former Kamloops Residential School in B.C.

The St. Eugene’s Mission School was in operation from 1908 until 1970, and has been repurposed into a golf resort and casino.
