City of Moose Jaw hosting rally on July 1 to show support for Cowessess First Nation

The City of Moose Jaw plans on lowering flags and having the clock tower at City Hall shining in orange lights on Canada Day. A fireworks display will also be stopped at the halfway point with a moment of silence being held to remember the tragedy at the Cowessess First Nation.

The City is also asking people to join in a “Standing in Integrity Canada Day Rally” that will be held on Thursday. That rally, which is hosted by a group called Our Home on Native Land, will start at 220 Main Street North and end on Athabasca Street.

In a release from the City, Mayor Fraser Tolmie says they want people to understand the turh of the past and will seek advice from Elders and the entire Indigenous Communuity to understand what further actions can be taken to work towards reconciliation.
