Carlyle RCMP officer facing assault charge stemming from incident in October

An RCMP officer has been charged with assault after an incident in October of 2020.

During an arrest being made in Arcola on October 31, an officer used OC (pepper) spray on a suspect. A formal complaint was made on November 18th, and an investigation was launched two days later. The officer was suspended with pay, and placed on administrative duty until January 20, when he ceased working.

Upon completion of the investigation, Constable Dani Zaya was arrested on Wednesday, and is charged with one count with assault with a weapon.

Zaya will appear in court on July 14. He remains suspended with pay at this time.
